Get More Clarity.

Uncategorized Aug 31, 2019

What are your next best steps towards building your business?  What are your next big moves that will create more intimacy with your loved ones?

These are questions I often dance around with my coaching clients, because they start off with the question, "What do I do next?".

Clarity is such an important topic in performance for many reasons.  Having clear next steps can make or break motivation.  Not knowing what to do next can help distraction win, or other peoples agendas trump your own.  The research on performance shows that those who spend more time getting clear on who they are and what they want are more successful, too.

So if you are feeling kind of lost and don't know what to do next, what do you do?  Just as importantly, if you are clear on your next steps, how do you keep your future vision in focus as you march forward?

The highest performers sharpening their vision by journaling, talking to their coach, and refining their ideas on what to do next.  I have a framework I like to use when I need to work things out called The Five Sources of Clarity, and it goes a little something like this:

  1. Values:  If I acted as my best self, what is the next most correct action?
  2. Goals:  If I were to finish this, what steps would I need to take get from where I am now to complete?
  3. Social:  If I were to be a better role model for my family, co-workers, friends, or community, what is the next correct course of action?
  4. Service:  If I were to serve or help even more people, my next bold action would look like...
  5. Legacy:  If I told my story to people 30 years from now, what parts of my journey to success would I be most proud to share or would inspire people?

When working with clients, I tend to use these five sources to help them figure out their next best steps, to deepen their success.

If you do one thing from this blog, I would suggest taking one of your big goals and looking at it through the Five Sources lens.  Use the questions above to journal through each of the points, and see what comes up for you.

That's my ramblings for the day, folks!  Take care!
