Why Your Energy Game Is EVERYTHING!

How you manage your energy determines your level of success.

What's one of the biggest drains on a high performing introvert's energy?

It's their environment, especially if you work at a place with an open office layout.

Why? Because there are people like the loud conference caller, the constant interrupter, and the random walker-upper that mess with your focus. The enormous energy expenditure comes with trying to get back into focus after each interruption.

If you relate, you might sometimes feel trapped in a personal hell where you have no control over your tasks, day, or work. This feeling of not controlling your day is exasperated with how the pandemic has changed where we work. While we might now be able to escape some office-specific distractions when we work from home, we have new distractions to worry about: family members, kids, pets, pressure to be available for work at all times, and the like.

So it's essential to have strategies to protect, change, and shift your energy and focus when interruptions happen at the office or when working from home.

Here's the big idea no matter where you work: Take multiple pit stops (mini-breaks) during the day.

These pit stops can help us calm down from frustration or help us feel centered so we can creatively work. The end goal is realizing we have more control over how we feel and building in points during the day to make sure we implement our energy habits.

Here are 5 of my favorite daily pit-stops to keep my energy up:

  1.  20 Arm Crosses
  2.  20 high knees
  3.  2-minute eye rest
  4.  10 Deep breaths
  5.  Stand for at least 2 minutes each hour, for 12 hours (thank you, Apple)

We can feel more energized each day with a simple rule: Three pit stops a day keeps the bad energy away!
