Shawn Buttner: You cannot be fully creative if you are exhausted. When we are physically exhausted, we tend to not give our best. We tend to treat it as a task to move through, and we don't take the extra steps to make sure something's excellent. That book you're writing, that chapter of that book, that podcast episode, that YouTube video, you name it.
If you're physically exhausted, you're not going to go the extra mile. And if you're mentally exhausted, you might. Get lazy, right? You might say, Hey, this is a good idea and you're not going to take the extra steps to make it an excellent idea that really helps people and inspires them. Because when we control our energy, we control our creative destinies.
And when we don't control our energy, we cannot consistently create [00:01:00] and we feel at the whim of the world. Right now, as an example of needing to manifest the energy that you need out in the world to create, as I'm recording this podcast episode, I feel like garbage, okay? If there are blips in the audio as you're listening to this episode, it's because I've had to cut off myself coughing, right?
Myself coughing. I've had to manifest the energy to make sure that this episode goes out in time and it's just one of the many examples of how having habits to get your energy up or to help you find peace can really help you as you go about your creative journey.and that's what we're going to talk about in this video.
There's two habits in particular that every creator needs to have in order to consistently create at their [00:02:00] best. anda couple more, but I know you might be thinking like, I don't have time to focus on my energy or this isn't going to work for me and my situation, or I'm pretty energetic all around and I don't need this.
Or maybe you're one of those people that's I can survive on one hour of sleep a week because I'm a vampire, right? I don't know what that has to do, being a vampire has to do with getting one hour of sleep, but all of these are things that I've heard as I've worked with clients, things that I've said myself, right?
And what it comes down to is if you find that distraction is winning during your day, that instead of Doing the work in your business as a professional that you are goofing off online or Falling the distraction. It's because you're not managing your energy and isn't that true or if you are not [00:03:00] Tending your energy properly.
When you get home, are you grumpy with your kids and your spouse and your friends, right? Are they getting the worst parts of you because you're just so exhausted from giving all early in your day and being able to summon your energy personally in those situations, even though you might not want to,all you want to do is sit quietly and read maybe, but you have to show up for the family, being able to manifest that in your life is super duper important because The way that I see it, your energy is like a balloon, and when the balloon gets so filled, it pops, but that action of popping causes you to go into action, right?
So if you are filling your balloon with creative energy or positive energy or, inspiration. When that balloon pops, you're going to take action and you're going to do more to [00:04:00] further your craft, right? If you're filling it with angry energy, that balloon might pop and you might go into a fit of rage and, trash your house or something, right?
Whatever people do when they get really angry. The type of energy that you are showing up with consistently during your day is going to determine the energy that you're putting out in the world, right? And if you're a creative, you want that to be, maybe you want it to be angry, but you want to be able to, actively put that type of energy out in the world in a way that serves your creative vision.
So how do you do that, right? So I have five habits to help manage your energy, but the two habits you must have is number one, you have to have an energy habit that pumps you up, right? And I'm not talking about gets you into this like manic type of energy, but just raises your energy level.
So if you right now, as you're listening to this podcast, could rate [00:05:00] yourself. on how energetic he felt on a scale of 1 to 10, what would you give yourself, right? And so whatever that number is it 3, is it 5, is it 7, is it 10, is it 1, whatever, why did you give yourself that number? And what would it take for you to raise that number, right?
And one of the, My favorite ways to raise that number is to do some breathing exercises. So some just really deep breathing.so don't do this if you're driving. of course with anything related to health, talk to your health professionals, but, really like 10 deep breaths in through your mouth.
Just,
you do 10 of those.just 10 breaths like that can really shift you into a higher state of feeling more energetic. And it's something I like to do before coaching clients. It's something I do before I do episodes like this. It's something I've been doing a lot today because I feel like [00:06:00] trash.
it's a habit that can really help you, perform when you need to, right? so the first one is to have an energy habit that, pumps your energy up. There's a second habit that's essential for every creators in particular is to have an energy habit that helps you find your center, find your inner peace, helps you have that like calm, gentle energy.
and I like to do a meditation for this and high performance, a high performance coach. We often talk about the release meditation. I'll put a link in the link below to a video I did where you could watch me do the release meditation. it's really weird to have meditated in front of a camera, but I get over myself.
It serves you. Go check that out. It's in the show notes below. and as we're talking about this too, in the show notes below, Since we're talking about show notes, also below, if you'd like some tailored questions to help you sort through your energy, go [00:07:00] in the show notes below, sign up for our newsletter and you'll get an email when this episode gets released on the newsletter with some questions to help you assess and level up your energy.
It's a way of, if you're driving, you can't catch this, or you're not taking, able to take notes because you're doing something else, you're working out, that kind of stuff. Super awesome. sign up for that newsletter, get those questions, so you can do the reflection later, okay? Cool. Alright, we have an energy habit to pump you up, have an energy habit to center yourself, like meditation.
third thing is to cover your NES, not your Nintendo Entertainment System. It's your nutrition, your exercise, and your sleep. And so these are just the basics, right? If you are constantly not getting enough sleep, if you're constantly, eating food that is not healthy, fresh and healthy. it's [00:08:00] going to impact how you feel day to day.
It's going to impact how creative you are. if you're not moving your body, you're not going outside, seeing the sun, going for walks at the very least or exercising that all is going to play in how you feel day to day at just a base level. And so I'd be remiss to not mention the NES, right?
Nutrition, exercise and sleep.that's the third one. The fourth energy habit you need to have is to, and this is more of, a belief, and it's this belief that you need to role model your energy for your team, for your family, and for your friends. You want to be the good energy person. So by focusing on always delivering the BA or not delivering, generating the best energy, when you interact with your team, your family, your friends, one, it'll make you more influential, right?
People like to be around people that have [00:09:00] good energy. two, it'll inspire them to mine their own energy, which is really good. But three, like at the very least. Generating the will and the ability to intimately interact with other people is going to improve your relationships. It's going to, help you connect with people.
And out in the world, we really need a lot more connection. if there's one of these habits that you take with you, right? It's to take this seriously, to really demand of yourself that you are managing and tending your energy for the people you care about around you, right? Okay. And then the fifth energy habit that I like to tell my clients when we work through it is to do these mini breaks which [00:10:00] could just be, closing your eyes for two minutes, Because of light and screens, your eyes get fatigued.
That'll impact you feeling more tired than maybe you really are. Taking regular bio breaks or doing some quick exercise and movement things can really change how you feel and your energy. So with all that said, this is really, I just want to leave you with this message that lead your energy to lead your creativity.
And build more connection with the people around you. I think you can do it. I'm cheering you on. And so we'll see you guys in the next episode of The Meaningful Revolution. This is Shawn Buttner, signing off.
