700 Youtube Videos Didn’t Make Me Confident

Confidence is a funny thing. My wife recently started her private practice, and in two weeks we built her site: her philosophy, the clear steps to work with her, and how her process works. This summer was her busiest since becoming a therapist. That’s a little frustrating for me, because I had the same goal for my coaching business, and it hasn’t gone as smoothly. So why could I help her get clients right away, and not myself?

Shawn spent five and a half years as an automation engineer at Apple, then left in 2019 to coach full-time and shut the technical side out completely. Ten years of coaching and 700 YouTube videos later, he had about 20 subscribers, flat social channels, and no clients from any of it. Lots of action. No traction.

Then he built his wife’s website and got her results in two weeks. Knowledge was never the missing piece. What she had was clarity about her voice, her steps, and who she helps. Clarity gives you confidence, confidence lets you act, action gets you results, and results build more confidence.

• Pedaling (low clarity, high action): spinning your wheels. That was the 700 videos.
• Perfecting (high clarity, low action): the ever-learning coach who stayed one class away from launching for five years.
• Progressing (high clarity, high action): where Shawn’s wife landed.

The box shows where you are, but the root cause can sit in another box. The rule: add the axis you’re missing without dropping the one you have.
