For guests of Input/Output
What you'd be walking into.
Input/Output is a podcast for people who are experts first, use content to build their business, and want it to sound like them. If that's you, this page covers what an hour with me is like and whether it's worth yours.
The premise
Input, Signal, Output.
Most shows about content treat it as a production problem. Post more, systematize harder, buy the next tool. This one starts a step earlier, with the person doing the creating.
Three parts. Input is you: what you've done, what you've decided, what you think. Signal is the work that carries it, the writing and the talking and the building. Output is what the audience receives.
Move the input and everything downstream moves with it. That's the show.
What we'd talk about
Voice, Workflow, Confidence.
Input, Signal and Output name the shape. These three name where it breaks, and they're where every conversation on this show ends up.
Voice.
What you think, and whether you'll say it in public. The question I'd ask: what do you believe about your field that you've never put in a post?
Workflow.
How the work gets made. The question I'd ask: which step in your process could only ever be done by you?
Confidence.
Whether you back yourself when it counts. The question I'd ask: what did you go quiet about, and what did that cost you?
Three things that list leaves out: your launch, your funnel numbers, and your origin story told as a highlight reel. If you're looking for a promo slot, this is the wrong show.
Who listens
It's a small show, on purpose.
The audience is small and specific, and I'd rather say that than dress it up. They're experts with a real track record in a prior career who are now building as creators. Coaches, consultants, practitioners, operators. People who were good at something before they started making content about it.
If reach is what you need right now, bigger shows exist and they're a better use of your hour. What's here is an hour of someone asking you real questions about work you've spent years on, and a recording you can use.
Is this a fit?
A fit, or not.
Probably you, if:
- You did something well before you were a creator, and you can point to it
- There are opinions about your field you've been sitting on
- You'd rather be asked something hard than handed a platform
- You're willing to talk about the part that didn't work, which is usually the best twenty minutes of any episode
Probably not you, if:
- You're booking podcasts to support a launch that's already on a calendar
- You'd want the questions in advance
- Audience size was your first question
How it goes
One hour, one thread.
Tech check first, about five minutes. Then we talk for roughly an hour. I like a short debrief after, so tell me up front if you have a hard stop.
It isn't live. If an answer comes out wrong, say so and we'll take it again. I'd rather have the version you meant.
I don't send questions ahead. I'll tell you the territory we're heading into, and then I want to hear you think it through out loud.
We record through Ecamm. The link is in your confirmation and there's nothing to install. You'll sign a short release form beforehand, which takes a minute.
What to have ready:
- Headphones and a mic, earbuds are fine
- A quiet room with the door shut
- A laptop that's plugged in
After we record
What you get.
- The edited episode, with show notes carrying your links and the one thing you want people to go to
- Chapters, so a listener can find the part they came for
- A YouTube cut, with you added as a collaborator on the upload
- Vertical clips
- A launch email, written and ready for you to forward to your own list the day it goes out
What I'd ask of you
Two things.
Share the episode with your people when it goes out. I'll make that easy. The launch email is written and ready to forward, and the clips come sized for wherever you post.
And if someone comes to mind who should be on next, tell me. I ask every guest.
Listen first
Three episodes, if you want a sample.
Your breakfast is why you can't create after 2pm with Dr. Alicia Newsome
An interview with a functional medicine physician, so you can hear the format from the guest's side.
You Don't Have a Volume Problem, You Have a Hiding Problem
Solo. 700 videos, under 20 subscribers, ten years of running the tactics correctly with none of the person in them.
The 5 Moves That Beat a Week of Busywork
Solo. Busywork and real progress feel identical from the inside. How to tell them apart.
There are four years of interviews in the archive too, under the show's earlier names.
If you listen to one and think "I'd have answered that differently," that's a good sign.
What's next
We'll talk first.
There's no booking link on this page, on purpose. I have a short call with every guest before we record, partly to make sure the fit is real and partly because the conversation gets better once we've met.
If we've already had that call, you have the scheduling link from me. If we haven't, reply to my email and we'll set one up. If you landed here some other way, the contact page reaches me.
